Elon Musk took to Twitter late Friday night to share his personal experience with the second COVID booster, explaining that he encountered “major side effects.”
In a series of tweets, the Twitter CEO said he felt like he was “dying” and that one of his “optimally healthy” cousins was suffering from myocarditis, a inflammation of the heart which is listed as a possible side effect of some coronavirus vaccines.
“I had major side effects after my second booster shot. I felt like I was dying for several days. Hopefully there won’t be any permanent damage, but I don’t know,” Musk said in a tweet.
He added: “And my cousin, who is young and healthy, had a severe case of myocarditis. He had to go to the hospital.”

In a third post, Musk explained that it was not his choice to get the second recall, but that it was mandatory to visit a Tesla site in Berlin, Germany.
“I had to visit Tesla Giga Berlin. It’s not my choice,” he said.

In another message, Musk explained that he had no problem receiving the first Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the first mRNA booster.
“I had OG C19 before the vaccines came out and it was basically a mild cold. Then I had the J&J vaccine with no ill effects except my arm hurt briefly,” he said. he tweeted.
The Tesla founder added: “The first mRNA booster was fine, but the second one crushed me.”
Musk’s posts were in response to a Rasmussen Reports tweet that said about 12 million people may have experienced “major side effects” after receiving the vaccine.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cases of myocarditis are a “rare risk” for those receiving COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.
“These rare cases of myocarditis or pericarditis most commonly occurred in adolescent and young adult males, ages 16 and older, within 7 days of receiving the second dose of a COVID mRNA vaccine -19 (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna). There has not been a similar reporting pattern seen after receiving the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson),” the CDC states on its website.

The website adds, “The CDC continues to recommend vaccination against COVID-19 for anyone 6 months of age and older. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and CDC have determined that benefits (such as prevention of COVID-19 cases and its severity outcomes) outweigh the risks of myocarditis and pericarditis after receiving COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.”

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, and the CDC said preliminary data shows “most patients” eventually recovered from their myocarditis.
“Preliminary data from surveys conducted at least 90 days after diagnosis of myocarditis showed that most patients had fully recovered from their myocarditis,” the CDC said.

It recommends that all cases of myocarditis and pericarditis be reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

Federal law requires health care providers to report these problems to VAERS.
Musk has repeatedly criticized the COVID pandemic and Dr. Anthony Fauci, who oversaw the US response to the pandemic under Presidents Trump and Biden and their administrations as the White House’s chief medical adviser.
